Laverne Chronic, 78, of Mattoon, passed away at 9:20 a.m. on February 21, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, IL, with Reverend Ed Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Drummond Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the funeral home.

Laverne was born on February 6, 1935 in Mattoon, IL the son of Delbert and Maxine (Dobbs) Chronic. He Married Marie VanScyoc on January 16, 1954.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Marie Chronic, of Mattoon, IL; three daughters; Kathy (Dennis) Walker of Mattoon, IL; Cheryl Sheppard of Charleston, IL and Robin Bailey of Mattoon, IL; son, Kevin Delbert Chronic of Springfield, MO; brother, Fred (Janice) Chronic of Mattoon, IL; four sisters; Betty Basham of Mattoon, IL; Nancy VanMeter of Mattoon, IL; Sue Ann(Leroy) Martin of Effingham, IL and Mary Punches of Decatur, IL; grandchildren; Nicole Chronic of Mattoon, IL; Clint Walker of Mattoon, IL; Corey Heuerman of Mattoon, IL; Sophie Chronic of Kokomo, IN; Benjamin Chronic of Springfield, MO and Mary Sheppard of Charleston, IL; great grandchildren Mazey and Jackson.

Laverne was preceded in death by brother, Leroy Chronic; two sisters, Nadine Foster and Mary Ellen Chronic; and grandson, Jamey Heuerman.

Laverne enjoyed playing country music. He sang and played guitar in several bands throughout his life. Mr. Chronic was a member of the New Mercy Worship Center and the Eagles. Laverne liked to camp and fish. Most of all, Laverne loved spending time with the love of his life, Marie and cherished moments with his children and grandchildren.

Memorial donations in his honor are suggested to the New Mercy Worship Center, 201 Richmond Avenue East, Mattoon, IL 61938.
